Let's see how this works this week.

Hi. Thanks for coming to the Dream Flag Project blog!

I'm prety new to this technology, so you can help me out if you have any blog kind of set-up suggestions. What I envision is that this is a place where we can talk about what were doing currently and what kinds of experiences we're having with the project--questions, thoughts, whatever.

I teach 6th graders English and we're getting into the actual poetry writing next week. We're been looking at Hughes poetry as we've been reading Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry. I think my kids are pretty excited about doing the project. We put up a bulletiin board with a map of the U.S. and tacks in it where all the Dream Flag schools are located. There's also a list of the participating schools and some printouts from the "Look Who's Dreaming" page. I've seen kids stop and look at it. I think it's hard for them to think about connecting with kids far away. I hope I can find ways to make the connections seem more real for them.
